Completing the puzzle of automated horizontal transport

September 13, 2017

With the recent launch of its newest horizontal automation transport solutions, Konecranes now offers the widest and deepest offering in container handling. Watch this video to learn more about these latest options.

The Konecranes Noell Automated Straddle Carrier (A-STRAD) is a fully-automated container handling machine for greenfield and brownfield terminals. The existing, human-driven diesel-electric versions of the Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers are automation-ready and easily converted to A-STRAD operation. Automation components, such as navigation antennae and positioning sensors, are simple to retrofit.

Like the A-STRAD, the Konecranes Noell A-SPRINTER is based on its manual counterpart. It features an excellent diesel-electric drive system, which gives it outstanding maneuvering precision. A-SPRINTER carries out automated horizontal container transport between the quayside and the container yard.

Konecranes also offers Konecranes Gottwald Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) for rapid and economical container transport between the quayside and container yard. Konecranes AGVs and Lift AGVs are available with lithium-ion battery technology and new quick charging stations, and can also be equipped with management and navigation software.

Through its cooperation with Terberg, a respected Dutch terminal tractor and special vehicle manufacturer, Konecranes can now provide a complete Automated Terminal Tractor (A-TT) system. The A-TT’s automation technology is provided by Konecranes, along with the required software and integration on a turn-key basis while Terberg supplies the tractors. Konecranes is the first in the container handling industry to offer a complete Automated Terminal Tractor system.
