With a lifting capacity of 2,000 tons – about ten times the weight of an adult blue whale – the Goliath Gantry Crane delivered to the Ecovix shipyard in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil is currently the largest gantry-type crane in the world.
In June 2013, an automotive supplier in the US had a recurring issue of having to frequently replace the hoist brakes on their cranes. The company was mystified as to why they were going through hoist motors and brakes so quickly.
